Northeast Teachers’ Academy

Northeast Teachers’ Academy is for current teachers with at least three years of effective classroom experience and a commitment to sustained professional growth. The Academy focuses on student engagement, instructional strategies, and reflection on practices that align with the Missouri State Teacher Standards. The Teachers’ Academy is designed to provide participants with an intellectually stimulating opportunity to learn evidence-based teaching strategies and collaborate with other highly committed teachers in the region and throughout the state. The experience will culminate in a presentation of a personal action research project.

What is the Program Design?

Teachers’ Academy is based on the very successful Leadership Academy Program, which has been fundamental in providing professional growth for school leaders. The Academy requires eight total professional development days which includes six regional meetings and two statewide sessions with John Antonetti, author of the book, 17,000 Classroom Visits Can’t Be Wrong, which will be provided for all Teacher Academy Fellows. Tuition, travel expenses, and substitutes will be the responsibility of the school district or individual.

John Antonetti

John Antonetti is the trainer for our statewide Teacher Academy meetings. He has taught A.P Chemistry, Kindergarten and most grades in between in his home state of Arkansas. Often described as a “teacher’s teacher,” Mr. Antonetti works with our Teacher Academy Fellows on student engagement, writing, rigor and relevance, and high–yield best practices. As the former Director of Curriculum in the Sheridan School District in Arkansas, he took what he learned in his home district and developed strategies and protocols that work across all school types. His humor and parables are recognized by teachers, administrators, and parents as relevant examples of the power of teachers.

Antonetti authored the anchor book for Teacher Academy with his late business partner and friend, Jim Garver.
