Missouri Career Pathways

Missouri Career Pathways, an initiative of Missouri’s Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE), works to prepare high school students to be success ready to meet demands of today’s workforce. The initiative connects educators with business partners and post-secondary programs to equip students with the skills and credentials needed to succeed in a demanding labor market. Career Consultants assist school districts in identifying high-demand careers in their region, connecting employers and educators, and supporting districts in providing career awareness, exploration, and preparation for all students. Additionally, their work includes coordinating and facilitating teacher externships that provide opportunities for first-hand exposure to businesses within a career pathway.

The regional Career Advisors work with school districts, area career centers, military, and post- secondary institutions to ensure that Missouri students will have the knowledge, skills and experiences to make successful transitions to post-secondary options based on their educational and career goals. The Career Advisors work collaboratively with school districts to develop and enhance career pathways programs, assist school counselors in the development and implementation of Individual Career and Academic Plans, and support schools with the training, implementation, and integration of Missouri Connections. Additionally, the regional Career Advisors assist with career planning opportunities such as a statewide Nontraditional event(s) featuring Nontraditional Careers.
