Special Education Consultants

The Special Education Consultants’ primary role is to assist districts in programming and planning for the participation of students with special needs in the general education curriculum and in required assessments, such as MAP-A, as required under state and federal law. The Special Education Consultants also provide trainings and workshops on a regional level through the RPDC, as well as at the request of districts within the Northeast Region.

Special Education Improvement Consultant

Special Education Improvement Consultants provide training, coaching, and technical assistance to Missouri districts, schools, and teams on the use of DESE identified activities which research indicates are most effective for all students, but especially those students with disabilities. The Special Education Improvement Consultant provides training and assistance to Local Education Agencies (LEA) in the implementation of effective research-based activities, evidenced-based instructional practices to improve the academic performance, programs and processes designed to positively impact graduation and dropout rates, as well as assisting districts in the designing of college and career ready plans which ensure the effective transition of students from school to post-school activities.

Special Education Compliance Consultant

The Special Education Compliance Consultant assists local districts with professional development for both special education teachers and regular education teachers. The goal is to understand and effectively apply state and federal regulations in Local Education Agencies (LEA) implementing Part B of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). This is done through supporting districts in the implementation of compliant special education programs for students with disabilities ages 3-21 in public schools and by providing training, coaching, and technical assistance in accordance with Special Education laws and regulations.
