Fostering Thoughtful Minds: Intro to Building Thinking Classrooms in Mathematics
This workshop offers educators an introduction of Peter Liljedahl’s renowned Building Thinking Classrooms book. Participants will gain insights into fostering a culture of deep mathematical thinking and problem-solving skills within their classrooms.
The workshop will begin with educators delving into an introduction to BTC by experiencing a lesson modeled on ideas presented in the book. Participants will then examine the innovative approaches to collaborative problem-solving, student-centered instruction, and mathematical discourse experienced in the lesson. Through this overview of Liljedahl’s book, participants will discover how this type of instruction can help create a supportive learning environment that encourages students to engage meaningfully with mathematical concepts.
Whether you’re a seasoned teacher or beginning educator, this workshop provides a dynamic space for professional growth and collaboration. Join us as we discuss the benefits of BTC as a way to inspire lifelong learners and cultivate a culture of mathematical excellence in your classroom.
