Part 1: Understanding Content Bias Review Procedures
Participants will explore the procedures used to identify and address content bias in the state MAP and EOC math assessments. Through guided discussions and examples, participants will:
Understand criteria for detecting cultural, linguistic, and contextual biases in test items.
Practice reviewing sample questions for potential biases.
Part 2: Aligning Local Assessments to Missouri Standards
Building on insights from the first part, educators will turn their attention to aligning their local assessments with Missouri Learning Standards. This portion of the workshop will provide:
Strategies for evaluating and refining local assessments to ensure they align to state standards and learning goals.
Collaborative opportunities to revise existing test items and create new ones that are both aligned and free of bias.
By the end of the session, participants will walk away with strategies to create assessment items that uphold fairness, reflect state standards, and support the success of all students.
Participants will be asked to bring some local assessment items to review. We would prefer those be copyright free.
