Mission Statement

The purpose of the Technology Leadership Academy (TLA) is to assist school administrators in using technology as a tool for more effective leadership in their schools. Participants will create a professional network of school leaders for collaboration and will share innovative technology ideas to improve student performance in Missouri schools.

About the Program

SuccessLink, in cooperation with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education and the Regional Professional Development Centers, sponsors the "Technology Leadership Academy" for Missouri. This Academy assists administrators in developing the knowledge and skills necessary to use technology as a tool for more effective and efficient leadership in their schools.

The Technology Leadership Academy will help administrators:

  • Focus on leadership skills in technology.
  • Improve classroom use of technology.
  • Assess strengths and needs of your staff and students in the area of technology.
  • Develop a practical & useful technology plan.

Program Eligibility

Participants must be the building principal or district superintendent (public and non-public schools included). The Gates Foundation grant stipulates that only primary principals and superintendents may participate in this program. Programs for other educators will be developed at a later date.

Participants are required to attend a one-day statewide session at Tan-Tar-A and four one-day regional sessions. The four regional sessions are held at the local Regional Professional Development Center (RPDC) throughout the state Participating principals must administer a set of on-line technology assessments (TAGLIT) to 80% of their classroom teachers between the first and second sessions.

During the sessions, participants will:

  • Experience a problems-based learning project using technology that develops critical thinking skills.
  • Use a Technology Leadership framework to organize their learning about technology planning, budgeting, professional development, and curriculum development.
  • Learn about instructional resources that help improve the use of technology for teaching and learning.
  • Develop an action plan that addresses specific areas of need identified by the TAGLIT assessment.
  • The Technology Leadership Academy program began in Missouri in January of 2001. The following groups have completed/are completing training:
