About the Special Education Consultant

The Special Education Consultants' primary role is to assist districts in programming and planning for the participation of students with special needs in the general education curriculum and in required assessments, such as the MAP and MAP-A, as required under state and federal law. The Special Education Consultants and RTAC also provide trainings and workshops on a regional level through the RPDC as well as at the request of districts within the Northeast Region. Additionally, the Special Education Consultants and RTAC collaborates with other programs in the RPDC to meet the needs of districts as they serve students with disabilities. Collaboration with Missouri Colleges and Universities is also part of the activities assigned to the Special Education Consultants and RTAC.

Services

Districts should call on the special education consultants and RTAC to assist with comprehensive school improvement plans, professional development, and other school based improvement efforts.

Meet the Special Education Consultant

Joan Minner comes to the Northeast RPDC as an experienced educator and consultant. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Special Education from Southern Illinois University and a Master's degree in Special Education from Murray State University. Her experiences include teaching early childhood, inclusive special education classrooms, multi-age primary classrooms, and cross-categorical resource and self-contained classrooms.

Joetta Walter comes to the Northeast RPDC from Macon R-I where she held the position of Special Education Director after teaching many years in the classroom.  She holds a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from Truman State University (formerly Northeast Missouri State University) and a Master's degree in Special Education from Truman.  Her experiences include teaching students with severe developmental delays, learning disabilities and regular education.  Her main job focus is assisting schools with compliance.
