Teacher's Academy

Improving Student Achievement Using Effective Instructional Strategies

What is the Program Design?

Teachers’ Academy is a replication of the very successful Leadership Academy Satellite Program, which has been fundamental in providing professional growth for school leaders.  The Teachers’ Academy is designed to provide participants with an intellectually stimulating opportunity to learn new teaching strategies and collaborate with other highly committed teachers in the region.  Although not designed as a preparation program for National Board Certification, graduates of the Teachers’ Academy will find their experience to be a natural springboard into the National Board preparation program offered by the RPDC.

The Statewide Kickoff will be held on September 26-27, tentatively at the Resort at Port Arrowhead at Lake Ozark, MO with Academy Fellows from around the state. The Statewide Graduation will be held on may 1-2, 2009.  Participation additionally requires monthly release days for regional meetings to allow teachers time to discuss educational issues, deepen content knowledge, and network with other highly committed educators from the area. Transportation and substitutes will be the responsibility of the school or individual. The Northeast facilitators will be Lois Stueve, STARR 2005-2006, and Jenny Webb, RPDC Assistant Director.

Who Qualifies to be a Teachers’ Academy Fellow?

  • A current classroom teacher with three years of classroom experience
  • A teacher with demonstrated classroom effectiveness
  • A teacher with a Master’s degree or significant professional growth
  • A teacher with a commitment to sustained professional growth

How are Academy Fellows selected?

Fellows and scholarships are selected from an application process which requires a narrative response to a set of questions and two letters of recommendation
